 Introduction

Other benefits of co-generation besides the higher value addition are stated below:-

ELECTRICAL ASPECTS
  •   While exporting in synchronizing mode, KVAR sharing is con trolled by controlling the excitation of alternator, and maintaining power factor at 0.98 lagging, plant power factor improves from 0.85 to more than 0.9 lagging.

  • By export of power in synchronizing mode, harmonics developed by DC drive in system is reduced in large extent

  • For energy saving, plant load factor is improved and equipments are utilized an optimized manner.

 IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE OF BOILER

As  boiling house is always having fluctuating steam demand, which was maintained by operating PRDS of 1.0 Kg./Cm2, it gave at times an additional load of 10-15 TPH on boiler. By introducing the Co- generation, it has been observed that the makeup steam demand in boiling house  reduces resulting in minimum operation of 1 Kg./Cm2 PRdS. Therefore the load on the boiler becomes comparatively more uniform.

UNIFORM STEAM PRESSURE TO PROCESS

When  back pressure turbine runs on fuel load of 9 MW exhaust of 1.2 ± 0.1 Kg./Cm2 are being maintained for boiling house,  which resulted in steam consumption on cane at 45%, only 7 Kg./Cm2 line of PRDS is in use for melting of sulphur and drying of sugar.
